Transferable Skills

Transferable skills I have gained include time management and organization. For my wood shop project, I was supposed to finish my wooden shelf in a certain amount of time. During the first couple weeks I was very laid back and spent quite a lot of time on chiseling. It was only, a week before my project was due, when I started to rush and try and finish everything. In group projects it is easier to keep track of your time compared to when you're working alone. However, I came early for a few mornings and finished my shelves on time. From this project, I took away how to manage my time, be organized, have a plan and stay on top of my work. I can transfer this skill to other courses in my school, like computer science, physics, chemistry, etc. Making a plan and being organized is key to finishing any project and that is another skill I gained from the project I made. I can take this skill into my future career - engineering. Engineers may have a lot of things at once and they may have to prioritize and manage their time wisely. For future projects, in or out of the wood shop, I can take my skill of being organized and always having a plan.

Another transferable skill I have gained is self - directed learning. This year my tech design class was working with a new design software called Inventor. We were required to watch tutorials and learn how to use the application on our own. After looking at videos and going through tutorials I was able to teach myself the basics. I used Inventor to make technical drawings for my first wood shop project this year, and after using it for other projects, I can say I have learnt a lot - all by myself! I can use this skill for my future career. I am planning on becoming an engineer and this skill will help me learn new apps on my own. Engineers also use designing software and I can carry this skill into learning new designing apps.
